Former British soldier Daniel Abed Khalifa appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court today, Monday, charged with terrorism-related offenses and violations of the Official Secrets Act, as well as escaping from prison and fleeing last week. Prosecutors stated that 21-year-old Khalifa escaped on Wednesday from Wandsworth Prison in London, where he was being held prior to trial on other charges, by tying himself under a food delivery truck using makeshift bindings possibly made from bed sheets. His escape led to a four-day nationwide manhunt, which concluded on Saturday with an announcement that an undercover police officer recaptured him in west London while he was riding a bicycle beside a canal.
