The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, met today with Abdullah Bou Habib, the Foreign Minister of the caretaker government. Greenfield emphasized "the United States' support for ensuring a strong mandate from the United Nations Security Council to extend the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) so that it can carry out its missions." In this context, the U.S. Ambassador welcomed Lebanon's focus on the safety of UN peacekeeping forces through close cooperation between the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL. She also revealed that "part of the discussions regarding the renewal of the mandate requires addressing the activities of the 'Green Without Borders' association, which the United States recently placed on the sanctions list for providing support and cover for Hezbollah operations in southern Lebanon along the blue line."
