Arrest of Four for Extorting Women

Arrest of Four for Extorting Women

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: "Following complaints from citizens to the Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Protection Bureau in the Judicial Police Unit against individuals forming gangs for offenses including stalking, material extortion, defamation, and tarnishing reputations, these individuals had coerced women into sending them money through money transfer offices. One of the amounts sent reached fifty thousand US dollars, prompted by threats from the accused to publish their pictures or phone conversations and defame them via social media. Consequently, a force from the referred office, supported by the special unit in the Judicial Police, was tasked with arresting those involved. As a result of surveillance and investigations, on December 12, 2023, an operation was carried out to arrest four suspects in various locations in the northern governorate, and they confessed to the charges against them. The arrested individuals have been referred to the competent judiciary, as directed."
