"National Moderation": President Berri Ready for What He Sees as Necessary for National Interest

On Wednesday, the Speaker of the House Nabih Berri received a delegation from the "National Moderation" bloc at the second presidential office in Ain al-Tineh. The delegation included deputies Walid Baaarini, Saji Attia, Mohammad Sulaiman, Ahmad al-Khair, and Ahmad Rustom, where they discussed the general conditions and the latest political, security, and field developments in light of the escalating Israeli aggression against Gaza and Lebanon, as well as legislative matters.

After the meeting, Deputy Mohammad Sulaiman said, "Today the 'National Moderation' bloc and some independents presented a draft law to the parliamentary council to extend the ranks of Brigadier General and Major General, as we see this as necessary given the current circumstances in the country. We informed the President of this framework, and he showed full cooperation for the country's interest and safety."

He added, "We hope that this proposal will take its natural course to maintain the country and its safety." In response to a question about the pathways the extension might take, Sulaiman replied, "President Nabih Berri was clear and communicated this to the Forces bloc. Today, he also informed us that the authority rests with the Cabinet, and if the Cabinet is incapacitated, he is ready to make a decision in the parliamentary council based on what he sees as necessary for national interest during these difficult times. We demand equality and justice in this regard, so what applies to the Major General should also apply to the functioning Brigadier Generals."

Berri also received Deputy Abdul Aziz Al-Samad.
