American Officer Convicted of Killing George Floyd Stabbed in Prison

American media reported this morning, Saturday, that the police officer convicted of killing George Floyd has been stabbed inside his prison. According to the New York Times, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted of killing African American George Floyd, was stabbed and injured by another inmate in a federal prison in Arizona in the southwestern United States. U.S. federal prison authorities sent a statement to the AFP confirming that an "assault" occurred without naming the victim. The federal prison authorities stated that staff at the prison "took action to save the life of an inmate," confirming that emergency medical services were called. A U.S. court sentenced former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted last year of killing George Floyd, to 21 years in prison on July 6 for separate federal charges related to violating Floyd's civil rights during his arrest, which led to his death in May 2020.
