The Ministry of Energy and Water - Petroleum Sector Management Authority announced in a statement that "at 3:00 PM today, one hour before the deadline for submitting applications to participate in the second licensing round, the consortium consisting of 'TotalEnergies' of France, 'Eni' of Italy, and 'QatarEnergy' submitted bids to participate in the second licensing round for blocks 8 and 10 in Lebanese territorial waters." It is noteworthy that the companies making up the consortium are already holding petroleum rights in blocks 4 and 9 in Lebanese waters. Commenting on the matter, Minister of Energy in the caretaker government, Walid Fayad, stated in an interview with Reuters that he accepted the two new applications for participation in the second licensing round for the bidding on blocks 8 and 10 in Lebanese waters. He expected the first results for block 9 to emerge by the end of October or early November, indicating that the "TotalEnergies, Eni, and QatarEnergy consortium could drill a second well in block 4."
