On his third day in Beirut, French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian met again with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday, in the presence of French Ambassador Anne Grillo. For his part, Berri reiterated that "a window has opened in the presidential file."
Le Drian, accompanied by a delegation from the embassy, also met with the head of the "Loyalty to the Resistance" bloc, MP Mohammad Raad, and the head of international relations, Ammar Moussaoui, at the bloc's headquarters in Haret Hreik. Additionally, Le Drian met with the Secretary-General of the "Tashnag" party and head of the Armenian parliamentary bloc, MP Hagop Pakradounian.
Discussions centered on the general situation, particularly the presidential file, where the French envoy presented his presidential initiative.
MP Imad Hawat announced in a statement that he "met with the French envoy on behalf of the Independent Parliamentary Meeting, listened to the new proposal to hold working sessions in Lebanon regarding the duties and specifications of the next president, followed by electoral sessions." He stated, "We confirmed our preference for the constitutional mechanism for the election and that we have no objection to discussing the responsibilities and specifications of the president within a short timeframe."
