The body of Brazilian football legend and three-time world champion, Pele, was transported to the Santos Club stadium in Brazil today, Monday, where farewell ceremonies will take place. His funeral is scheduled for January 3. Thousands of fans gathered in the stadium square to welcome Pele's funeral procession for their final goodbye, with fans displaying banners that read "Long Live the King" throughout the stadium.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, "Pele," was born on October 23, 1940, and played his first match with Santos FC in 1956 when he was just fifteen years old. A year later, he was called up to the national team and scored a goal in his debut match against Argentina. Pele passed away on December 29, 2022, at the age of 83, after a long battle with illness, having been diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2021. In 2022, he was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital twice for treatment of cancer affecting the intestines, liver, and lungs. Pele, alongside Neymar, holds the record as one of the top scorers in the history of the Brazilian national team, having scored 77 goals in 92 matches and representing Brazil for 18 years.
