International Red Cross Warns: "Syria is in Danger Without Humanitarian Assistance"

International Red Cross Warns:

Fabrizio Carboni, the regional director for the Near East and Middle East at the International Committee of the Red Cross, warned that life-supporting aid is at risk unless the international community supports Syria with the level of assistance it needs, noting that millions of people in Syria currently depend on humanitarian aid. Prior to the donor conference to support the victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquake, he stated, "Syria deserves the world’s solidarity and support. Its people have endured a brutal conflict for 12 years, losing loved ones and livelihoods, not to mention homes that have become a thing of the past." He added that the earthquake that struck the country last month has shaken communities in the northwest and caused a new wave of destruction.

Carboni explained that the scale of humanitarian needs in Syria is enormous, as an increasing number of families struggle with food insecurity. People are also increasingly fighting to access safe drinking water, with only 50% of water and sanitation systems in Syria operating at full capacity, along with their inability to obtain medical care. The regional director of the International Red Cross urged donor countries to enhance their support so that local communities in Syria can receive the assistance they need, especially since funding for humanitarian operations is facing a severe shortfall compared to last year globally.
