Fourteen miners were killed and more than 20 others injured following a mine collapse in northern Sudan. A senior official from the state-owned Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Moataz Hajj Nour, revealed to Reuters today that part of a mountain slope collapsed near the Al-Jabal Al-Ahmar mine, located 70 kilometers from the city of Wadi Halfa, leading to the deadly incident on Thursday. The Sudan News Agency reported on Thursday that witnesses said the miners were excavating for gold using heavy machinery, which triggered the collapse.
