Journalists' Syndicate Demands Tunisian President Respect Media Independence

The Tunisian Journalists' Syndicate demanded President Kais Saied to "respect media independence" in a statement following his meeting with the director of the state television. The statement said: "The intervention of the country's president included interference even in the arrangement of news bulletins, media content, and guests on programs, an unprecedented act that has not been done by others." It added: "This intervention is part of a broader context of censorship on public media, undermining the principle of plurality, diversity, and objectivity." Saied criticized the performance of television and the media content, calling for renewal. The Tunisian president is facing a wave of criticism from his opponents and accusations of targeting freedom of expression and media.
