Security sources reported on Wednesday that the presidential guard in Niger is holding President Mohamed Bazoum at the presidential palace in the capital, Niamey, with military vehicles blocking the palace entrance since this morning. Security and presidential sources indicated that access to the ministries located next to the palace has also been restricted, and those working inside the palace have been unable to reach their offices. Presidential sources confirmed that "Bazoum and his family are fine," noting that "the national army did not support the presidential guard, and it is ready to attack if they do not return to their senses." A Reuters correspondent reported that the rest of Niamey appeared calm this morning, with normal traffic on the roads and no disruption to internet connectivity.
