Minister of Public Works: The Responsible Party Must Clean the Beirut River Mouth Before the Next Storm

The Minister of Public Works and Transport in the caretaker government, Ali Hamie, published a video on the "X" platform showing the Beirut River, noting that it "clearly demonstrates the stagnation of water flow toward the sea due to lack of cleaning and maintenance of its course, leading to flooding in Karantina." He stated that "based on a letter addressed to the Ministry of Energy and Water, it is their responsibility, as outlined in Law No. 221 dated 29/05/2000 (regulating the water sector), to correct the waterways of rivers." He emphasized that "there is no need for further analysis or justification." The responsible party must go directly to the mouth of the Beirut River and carry out cleaning before the next storm. The attached video shows the Beirut River, clearly indicating the lack of water flow toward the sea due to the absence of cleaning and maintenance, which has resulted in flooding in Karantina.
