The Russian Ministry of Emergencies reported on Monday that a Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the ministry crashed in a lake in the Karelia region of northern Russia, with a crew of three onboard. The ministry stated that the search is underway underwater. In a message on the Telegram app, the ministry mentioned that "the helicopter was on a training mission and was piloted by an experienced crew." The wreckage of the helicopter, which disappeared from radar screens late Sunday, was located 11 kilometers from the shore of Lake Onega, the second largest lake in Europe, at a depth of 50 meters. The ministry confirmed that divers and a remotely operated underwater vehicle have been deployed. No information regarding the condition of the crew members has been provided.
