Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is making an official visit to Qatar on Tuesday, marking the first of its kind after nearly a decade of tension between the two countries, which saw a breakthrough in relations last year. The visit is expected to last two days, according to the official Qatari news agency. He will be welcomed by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
On Wednesday, Sheikh Tamim and President Sisi will discuss bilateral relations and ways to support and enhance them in various fields at the Amiri Diwan, as per the Qatari news agency. In June 2021, the Emir of Qatar made his first visit to Egypt since attending the Arab Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2015.
Tensions had overshadowed relations between the two nations since the political developments in Egypt in 2013, which also involved the media of both countries. Diplomatic relations were severed during the "Gulf crisis" in 2017. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Egyptian president previously met at the Baghdad Summit in August 2021 and shared a dinner in China in February 2022.
