Patriarch Raï: We Expected a Christmas Gift from MPs, But

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Raï stated that "the insolvency of the National Social Security Fund is a serious warning, and it is unfortunate that this situation is absent from political and parliamentary discourse." In his sermon during the Christmas Mass, he said: "May this Christmas bring a spiritual transformation in the lives of every person, for today’s world, which is characterized by arrogance and domination, is in need of this internal revolution; otherwise, everything will remain the same with corruption, conflicts, and the playing with the fate of nations."

Raï expressed his regret, saying: "This internal transformation has not occurred regarding our homeland, Lebanon, and we were hoping for a change in the hearts of the nation’s deputies and their blocs that would lead them to elect a capable, clean-handed president, detached from any personal or factional interests. We expected a Christmas gift from them, but 'there is no gift,' as there is a saying that 'no one can give what they do not have.'" He added: "We pray for the election of a president, for the awaited reforms, and for the removal of known obstacles to social security."
