Minister Warns Against Burning Dry Grass to Prevent Catastrophic Fires

The Minister of Environment in the caretaker government, Nasser Yassin, warned against burning dry grass during this period. He wrote on the platform "X": "In the past few days, we have witnessed several forest and woodland fires that almost became catastrophic: in Marj Bisri, Harar, Qbayyit, Old Akkar, Dinnieh, Kfarra, and other areas. The swift response from the Civil Defense teams, first responders, significant support from the Lebanese Army Air Force, and the provision of water by municipalities played a crucial role in controlling these fires and preventing their spread."

He added, "Most of these fires began due to the negligence of some farmers who were burning dry grass on their lands, and the strong winds and low humidity contributed to their spread." He indicated that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, natural reserve committees, municipalities, and environmental organizations, they will issue a directive to everyone to prohibit burning grass and waste during this period, and to respect the forest law that prohibits such actions in areas located less than five hundred meters from forests, from July 1 to October 31.
