Indonesian authorities stated that rescue teams are making intensive efforts to retrieve two individuals trapped between carriages following a collision of passenger trains in West Java on Friday, resulting in at least three fatalities and 28 injuries. Footage aired by Metro and Kompas news channels showed assistance being provided to passengers as some carriages had completely derailed.
Heri Marantika, head of a rescue agency, mentioned that rescuers are evaluating options to extract the two trapped individuals but refrained from confirming their status. Police reported that ambulances rushed to transport the injured to hospitals following the incident, which occurred at 6:03 AM local time (11:03 AM GMT) near Bandung, the capital of the province.
Ibrahim Tambo, a spokesperson for West Java police, stated that the deceased were crew members of the two trains, adding that a total of 478 passengers were on board, with 28 individuals taken to the hospital. The cause of the incident remains unclear, but the operating company, PT KAI, and the provincial government have stated they will investigate the incident in collaboration with transportation safety officials.
