Red Cross Clarifies After Harassment Allegations in Its Centers

After information circulated regarding harassment of employees within the Red Cross centers, a statement clarified the following: "The Lebanese Red Cross takes seriously the allegations circulated on social media. Every year, over half a million people in Lebanon benefit from the health services and relief programs provided by the Lebanese Red Cross through a network consisting of thousands of volunteers and employees. In carrying out its humanitarian mission, it strives to apply the highest standards of ethical behavior and follows a strict policy of zero tolerance for harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, abuse of power, exploitation, sexual assault, as well as any other unwanted physical contact or any violence or threats of physical violence. In accordance with this policy and its procedures regarding protection from sexual harassment, all appropriate precautionary measures have been taken, and a comprehensive investigation is currently being conducted by an independent and neutral party into all the allegations. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate decisions and follow-up actions will be taken based on the results of the aforementioned investigation, and in accordance with the applicable policies and internal regulations." The Lebanese Red Cross reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe working environment that protects the dignity and rights of all beneficiaries, volunteers, and employees, in line with its principles and code of conduct.
