Russian President Vladimir Putin stated today, Tuesday, that "the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a clear example of the failure of U.S. policy in the Middle East." During a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, who is currently visiting Russia, Putin said, "Washington tried to reach a settlement in the region on its own."
Putin noted that "the United States sought to 'monopolize' international efforts to achieve peace in the region," and accused Washington of neglecting to seek a settlement that would be acceptable to both parties. He added, "The United States has ignored the interests of the Palestinian people, including the need to establish an independent Palestinian state. The Palestinians want to establish an independent state for themselves in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital, which are territories occupied by Israel during the 1967 war."
Earlier, the Kremlin pointed out that it is "in contact with both sides and will seek to play a role in resolving the conflict between them."
