Video: Defendant Attacks Judge During Court Session

A defendant surprised a judge and attacked her while she was speaking during a court session in Nevada, as shown in a video captured by courtroom cameras. In this strange incident that occurred at the Clark County Court, Judge Mary Kay Holthus denied bail for defendant Debra Riden. The defendant’s attorney was requesting bail for his client with supervision, but the judge said, "I think it’s time for him to taste something else."

While the judge was speaking, the defendant launched an unexpected attack, leaping over the table in front of her and lunging at her with a sudden move.

U.S. media reported that both the judge and her assistant were injured in the incident, with the assistant being taken to the hospital. Conversely, Riden was charged with attempted battery resulting in substantial bodily harm, which is the same charge he was initially being tried for, and he is set to return to court on Thursday.

The court released a statement to Fox News, stating: "We commend the heroic actions of our staff, law enforcement officials, and others who subdued the defendant." They added: "The court remains committed to safe courtrooms. We are reviewing all our protocols and will do everything necessary to protect the judiciary, the public, and our staff."
