Houthi Forces Demand Departure of Americans and Brits from Yemen

A document from a Houthi official, dated Wednesday, indicates that the movement's authorities in Yemen have ordered American and British employees working for the United Nations and humanitarian organizations based in Sana'a to leave the country within a month. In a message sent by the Houthi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to UN humanitarian affairs coordinator Peter Hawkins, it was stated, "The ministry would like to emphasize the necessity of informing all officials and personnel holding American and British citizenship to be prepared to leave the country within a maximum of 30 days from the date of this communication."

This decision follows the United States and Britain, supported by other nations, striking military targets of the Iran-backed group, which has been launching attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea reportedly linked to Israel. Additionally, last week the U.S. government reinstated the group on the list of terrorist organizations while attempting to stop attacks on international navigation in the Red Sea. The Houthis stated, "Their attacks are in solidarity with the Palestinians while Israel bombs the Gaza Strip."
