Interior Minister: We Cannot Bear the Consequences of Any War

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, expressed his fear "of the war coming close to the Lebanese depth" in an interview with Al-Hadath channel, stating, "We must remain committed to legality and international resolutions to avoid war." He emphasized that "Lebanese people reject war, and Lebanon must be strong and Arab." On the anniversary of the assassination of President Rafik Hariri, he said, "We miss a figure of the stature of the martyred President Rafik Hariri who has Arab and international influence to spare Lebanon the bitter cup; the project of Hariri the father was stopping the war and uniting the Lebanese." Mawlawi stressed the necessity of "electing a president for the republic to rescue Lebanon from its crises."
