The plan for the deployment of joint Palestinian security forces in Ain al-Hilweh camp in Sidon has been relatively successful thus far, following two violent rounds of fighting that resulted in 32 deaths and more than 150 injuries. The elements of the joint Palestinian security force continued their deployment, implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached between Fatah Movement and Islamic factions.
In line with the developments, the "Palestinian Joint Action Committee" held a meeting in the home of Fatah Secretary-General Maher Shbayta in Ain al-Hilweh camp, attended by representatives from national and Islamic forces, as well as the commander of the joint security force, Mahmoud al-Ajouri. During the meeting, the steps necessary to fortify the security situation in the camp were discussed.
As a result, it was decided that elements of the joint security force would be deployed the day after tomorrow, Friday, at the entrances of UNRWA schools located between the Tawari area, the Upper Street, and Bustan al-Quds, with armed individuals withdrawing simultaneously and positioning themselves at the entrances as part of the third step after solidifying the ceasefire and reinforcing the Palestinian joint force, which has already been deployed in the Al-Tireh and Ras al-Ahmar neighborhoods, with the second deployment at the Burak Central – Bustan al-Quds intersection, leaving the timing of the deployment to the commander of the force, General al-Ajouri.
The fourth step, after evacuating UNRWA schools and positioning the security force at their entrances, will involve deploying personnel in the Hittin neighborhood to prevent friction in preparation for the return of displaced people, keeping the main issue at hand as the ways to deal with the wanted individuals in the assassination of General Abu Ashraf Al-Armooshi and his companions.
