Pope Francis Prays for Lebanon as the Anniversary of Beirut Port Explosion Approaches

Pope Francis noted today, Sunday, that he is praying for a solution to the crisis in Lebanon, as the third anniversary of the Beirut port explosion approaches, which will occur on August 4. The Pope stated, "On August 4, we will mark three years since the devastating explosion at the port of Beirut. I renew my prayers for the victims and their families who seek truth and justice." He added, "I hope that Lebanon's complex crisis finds a solution worthy of the history and values of that people." In another context, Pope Francis called on Russia to revive the grain export agreement from the Black Sea, which allowed Moscow to provide safe passage for Ukrainian exports from its ports despite the war. The Pope said, "I urge my brothers in the authorities of the Russian Federation to resume the Black Sea initiative and ensure the safe transport of grain."
