The government of Honduras announced on Sunday the imposition of a curfew in two northern cities following the shooting deaths of 22 individuals overnight in scattered attacks amidst an escalation of violence in the Central American country. Edgardo Barahona, an official from the police press office, stated that gunmen opened fire on a billiard hall in a neighborhood of the industrial city of Choloma on Saturday evening, resulting in 11 deaths and three injuries. A source, who requested anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media, indicated that at least 11 others were killed in separate attacks in the northern Valle de Sula region on Saturday. Honduran President Xiomara Castro announced via Twitter the immediate imposition of a 15-day curfew.
