The bottom-placed team in the French Ligue 1, Olympique Lyon, announced on Thursday its separation from coach Fabio Grosso due to poor results. Grosso lost his last league match (2-0) against visiting Lille, leaving Lyon in last place with seven points after 12 matches, five points away from safety. Youth team coach Pierre Sage will replace the 46-year-old Italian coach. The club stated in a statement: "Olympique Lyon would like to thank Fabio Grosso and his assistants for their dedication and professionalism since taking charge of the team." Grosso, a former Italian player who played for Lyon from 2007 to 2009, took over in September, replacing Laurent Blanc. Lyon achieved its first league win of the season under Grosso against Stade Rennais earlier this month but could not help the team move away from the bottom of the table. Lyon will visit Lens this Saturday.
