Beijing has stated that the United States repeats its claims about the "Chinese threat in space" only to justify the expansion of its military power in outer space, while in reality, it is the US that poses the largest threat to space security. This position was expressed by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin at a press conference on Friday, following a report released by the US Space Force asserting that "the US military believes that Russia and China are developing weapons to neutralize American satellites, often hiding their innovations to avoid international condemnation."
Wang Wenbin said: "The United States has continuously reiterated its theory regarding the alleged Chinese threat in space and tarnishes China’s reputation, but this is nothing more than a pretext to expand its military power in space in order to maintain its military hegemony." He added: "In reality, the United States does not hide that it views space as a battlefield and actively works to develop its military power in space, which provokes confrontation among major nations." The Chinese diplomat concluded by stating: "The Americans are the largest force pushing for the militarization of space and turning it into a theater of war, as well as being the biggest threat to space security."
