Lebanon Files Complaint to the Security Council Following Israeli Attack on the Southern Suburb

Following the directives of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants instructed Lebanon's permanent representative to the United Nations to file a complaint on January 4, 2024, to the Security Council after an Israeli attack on a residential area in the southern suburb of Beirut. The text of the complaint states that this attack represents the most serious chapter in a series of assaults, marking the first escalation of its kind since 2006, as it targeted a densely populated residential area in Beirut's suburbs. This constitutes a blatant Israeli violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens, as well as civil aviation, which raises concerns about the potential for an escalation of the conflict and destabilization of regional peace and security. Lebanon has once again requested the Security Council to condemn this attack, pressure Israel to cease its escalation, and take all necessary measures to stop Israeli assaults on its territory and people, in order to prevent the escalation of conflict and the entire region being drawn into a full-scale and devastating war that would be difficult to contain.
