The president of the "Independence Movement," MP Michel Moawad, visited the town of Iaal in Zgharta district, at the invitation of its residents and expatriates in Australia, and met with its religious and municipal figures, in the presence of Mayor Hatim Dib and other personalities. At the beginning of the meeting, Imam Sheikh Habib Abdel Ghani delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the people of Iaal in the homeland and diaspora, reminding everyone of the national constants and the historical path that has preserved the formula of diversity and coexistence that has long characterized the relationship with the MPs of Zgharta and its leaders, especially with the house of the martyred President Rene Moawad, which has created a shadow of harmony and understanding over the region.
Moawad addressed the ongoing "bloody war in Gaza," saying: "The destruction and waste of civilian blood should unite the Lebanese on the basis of protecting Lebanon and rejecting the transformation of it into a regional battleground at the expense of what remains of our economy, infrastructure, and the security and lives of Lebanese people on one hand, and on the other hand supporting the Palestinian people and their right to establish their independent state on their land and pushing to stop the bloodshed in Gaza."
He then toured the historical Mustapha Barbour Agha Castle, discussing ways to gradually rehabilitate it "to place this important monument on the region's tourism map, which would contribute to stimulating sustainable development in the town." In this context, Moawad promised to prepare a team of experts to conduct the necessary studies and plans to achieve this goal.
