Three-time world champion and one of Britain's greatest gymnasts, Max Whitlock, will return to major competitions for the first time since the Tokyo Olympics through the European Championships. He has won two gold medals in the pommel horse in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, as well as a gold in floor exercise in Rio. Whitlock spoke about mental health issues after the Tokyo Olympics and admitted that he thought his sporting career was over. He stated, "I am very happy to have chosen to compete in the European Championships. For me, after going through a difficult time after Tokyo, I have learned a lot about myself." He added, "This period of self-reflection and growth has led me back, but with a new mindset. I am more relaxed in training and competition, but equally excited to continue developing." He considers the European Championships an important stop ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
