Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, met today, Monday, with the General Director of Total Lebanon, Romain de la Martiniere, to discuss the latest developments regarding the exploratory drilling in oil block number 9. The arrival of the TransOcean Barents drilling platform to Lebanese waters is expected in August 2023. The Total director presented the ongoing preparations, particularly concerning the importation of necessary materials for drilling activities and related contracts.
Additionally, Total's global interest in investing in renewable energies, specifically solar and wind energy, was highlighted. Mikati also met with the Austrian Ambassador to Lebanon, Rene Poll, in the presence of former MP Michel Pharaon, where the bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed. The Prime Minister held a meeting with the President of the Lebanese University, Bassam Badran, and the President of the Association of Tenured Professors at the Lebanese University, Antoine Charbel.
