New York Awaits

New York is anticipating the arrival of a winter storm today, Saturday, which may bring heavy snowfall for the first time in two years to the most populous city in the United States and the East Coast. The 8.5 million residents of New York City have not experienced significant snowfall for 692 days, a record time, with the highest recorded snowfall at 2.54 centimeters, noted in Central Park on February 13.

The U.S. National Weather Service reported that "the incoming low-pressure system could bring snowfall levels reaching up to 7.6 centimeters in some areas of the city." New York meteorologist Bill Goodman stated, "There is a good chance of breaking the record... this winter started moderately but I suspect it will turn into a typical winter."

According to weather forecasts, the storm may produce more snow than was recorded in New York City throughout last winter, which only saw 5.84 centimeters, the lowest amount ever recorded. The storm is also expected to bring rain mixed with snow to some areas of the city, along with winds reaching speeds of 72 kilometers per hour.
