The government in Manila announced today, Thursday, that two Filipinos are among three crew members who died due to the Houthi attack on the cargo ship "Tru Confidence" in the Gulf of Aden. The Ministry of Migrant Labor in Manila confirmed, "Two Filipino sailors were killed in the latest attack by Houthi rebels on ships navigating in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden." It noted that it had previously been informed of "two Filipino crew members suffering serious injuries in the attack on their vessel." The three fatalities are believed to be the first casualties resulting from a series of maritime attacks carried out by the Houthis since November, amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. A missile fired from Yemen hit a cargo tanker in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday, leading to the deaths of at least three crew members, according to the United States, which vowed to "hold the rebels accountable" for this attack. An American official initially reported the deaths of two people, as relayed by crew members.
