Cancer Patients in Lebanon: Facing Death or the Government?

The "Barbara Nassar" Association organized a protest titled "Cancer Patients in Lebanon Facing Death or the Government" to demand the right of cancer patients to receive dignified treatment. The protest took place in Riad El Solh Square, in front of the Government Palace in Beirut, on Friday.

The President of the Pharmacists' Syndicate of Lebanon, جو سلوم, stated that what is being done against cancer patients and those with chronic diseases amounts to genocide. He mentioned in a statement that the loss of subsidized medications, their intermittent availability, the replacement of these with lower-quality drugs, or the need for patients to turn to the black market deprives thousands of patients of effective treatment and seals their inevitable fate.

He emphasized that it is one of the minimum obligations of the authorities to prioritize this humanitarian and ethical issue and to urgently call for an international donor conference. He pointed out that the annual financial requirement to support cancer patients' medications and ensure their availability does not exceed $360 million annually.
