Member of the "Strong Republic" bloc, MP Ghassan Hossbani, confirmed that "the Israeli side has an interest in exploiting opportunities available to them, to reduce the number of Palestinians and displace them to other places and resettle others in their place." In a radio interview, he noted that "those who have spoken about forcing the Israelis to abandon their project have not taken any logical practical steps; rather, they have exploited this demand to enhance their influence in other areas in the region." He pointed out that "the Americans are calling for calm as they have no interest in further escalating matters," adding that "if Hezbollah considered the Lebanese people and their suffering and the impact of entering the Gaza war and stirring up the front in the south, they would not have moved." He continued, "The party has linked Lebanon's fate to Gaza, knowing that they are two separate fronts, while all surrounding countries from Syria to Egypt and Jordan have not opened the front. What do the rules of engagement mean? It is a theater where both parties share roles and agree to 'hit each other without bothering one another.'" He concluded, "There are about fifty thousand displaced Lebanese who have left the south, and the danger is ongoing in sliding towards expanding the front."
