The Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq announced today, Monday, that a 15-year prison sentence has been issued against a drug trafficker for drug trafficking offenses. The council stated in a brief that the Wasit Criminal Court sentenced the drug trafficker to 15 years in prison for the crime of drug trafficking, noting that "the convicted individual was found in possession of 37 bags of methamphetamine." It added that "the sentence was issued based on the provisions of Article 28/First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, in conjunction with Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code."
