The 49th edition of the Film Association Festival has kicked off at the Creative Arts Center in Cairo today, Saturday, under the slogan "Towards Egyptian Cinema... Egyptian." The event was attended by artist Hussein Fahmy as the guest of honor.
In his opening remarks, Fahmy stated, "Since we were students at the Film Institute, there were many associations and clubs for film, and we moved from one association to another to learn and discuss, but the continuation of this association throughout these years and its ongoing activities is a great pride for all of us as filmmakers."
Eight films are competing for the festival's awards, having reached the final list based on the votes of critics, filmmakers, and members of the Film Association from among 45 films exhibited in Egyptian cinemas and entertainment platforms during 2022. The competing films are: "El-Gareema," "Alaa for Ziko," "Qamar 14," "Hamlet," "The Spider," "Kira and El-Gin," "Delivering the People," and "Fadl and Ni'ma." The festival's jury awards prizes across various cinematic arts, including directing, acting, cinematography, decoration, screenplay, makeup, costumes, editing, and music.
Over the course of 8 days, the festival will hold an open seminar for the public, featuring the creators and stars of each film following its screening. The closing ceremony will take place at the small theater of the Opera House on May 20, where awards will be distributed and three filmmakers will be honored.
