Moroccan authorities announced that firefighting teams managed to control a massive fire that broke out Thursday evening in a gas warehouse near Casablanca, with no injuries reported. The large fire, images of which spread across social media, started around 18:00 (17:00 GMT) in a gas warehouse in the coastal city of Mohammedia, according to a local authority source speaking to AFP.
Firefighting teams were able to control the flames after two and a half hours, according to the same source.
TV channel 2M reported from an unnamed official source that the fire broke out in a propane gas tank.
According to the authorities, the flames destroyed five tanks, each with a capacity of eight tons.
An investigation has been launched to clarify the circumstances surrounding the fire.
As a precautionary measure, rescue teams evacuated nearby houses and imposed a security cordon around the area.
