Sources: Airstrike Foils Rocket Attack on U.S. Base in Iraq

Two sources from the Iraqi army indicated that "a U.S. airstrike targeted a rocket launch platform late last night, which thwarted an attack on Ain al-Asad Airbase that houses U.S. and other international forces in western Iraq." Iraqi military sources stated, "A rocket launcher was mounted on a small truck parked in a rural area about seven kilometers east of the base, with at least two rockets ready for launch towards the base." An army official said that "the U.S. airstrike destroyed the launcher." No immediate comment was available from officials of the U.S.-led coalition regarding the strike.
