Army Commander General Joseph Aoun visited the 5th Intervention Regiment in Kfardounine, where he reviewed the operations carried out in light of developments at the southern border. He met with officers and soldiers and extended his condolences over Sergeant Abdel Karim Al-Maqdad, who was killed due to an attack by the Israeli enemy on a military position in Adaisseh - South on December 5, 2023, which also resulted in injuries to several soldiers. Aoun noted that "the resilience of the regiment's members and other units deployed in the south in the face of current challenges is important for the people of the region," praising their sacrifices and pointing out that "their dedication alongside their comrades in carrying out their duties reassured the Lebanese during the holidays." He then moved on to the UNIFIL Reserve Unit Command in Deir Kifa, where he met with French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, who was visiting the unit. General Aoun commended the efforts of the unit’s members and all UNIFIL personnel, their professionalism, and sacrifices in fulfilling their duties, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the army and UNIFIL within the framework of Resolution 1701, especially during the current exceptional circumstances.
