The French Seine-Maritime department announced in a statement today, Monday, that a fire that broke out earlier at an Esso-ExxonMobil refinery in Port Jerome-Gravenchon, northern France, has been brought under control. The refinery, located in the Normandy region on the banks of the Seine River, has a production capacity of 240,000 barrels per day and is among the largest refineries in France. It supplies the Ile-de-France region, where the capital, Paris, is located. The fire started in one of the distillation towers at the refinery. The company stated that local air quality was not affected. A spokesperson for the company noted that medical teams treated three people on-site, with two transferring to a local hospital. Video footage on social media showed black smoke rising above the facility.
