The NetBlocks Internet monitoring organization announced today, Thursday, that a major internet connectivity failure has affected West and Central Africa, based on reports from telecommunications companies about issues with undersea cables. The cause of the disruptions affecting the cables is not immediately clear. The African Cable Operating Company (SEACOM) confirmed the service disruptions on the cable system in West Africa and is redirecting customers who rely on this system to the Google Equiano cable used by the company. The company stated via email, "The rerouting process occurs automatically when one of the cables is affected."
