European traders indicated today, Thursday, that "it is believed that the Lebanese government purchased about 72,000 tons of flour wheat in a tender this week, with the entire quantity expected to be sourced from Ukraine." The traders added, "The purchase will be financed by the World Bank under its ongoing program to buy wheat to assist Lebanon amid its financial difficulties." The reports reflect the traders' assessments, and more estimates for prices and quantities may be available later. Wheat was required to be shipped quickly to Beirut. The purchase included 30,000 tons at an estimated price of $250.50 per ton, excluding unloading costs and including cost and shipping, to be shipped between January 20 and February 15, as well as 10,000 tons at $252.00 per ton, excluding unloading costs and including cost and shipping, to be shipped between January 18 and February 15, in addition to 32,000 tons at $252.50 per ton for shipping between February 5 and February 20.
