French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance he places on Lebanon during a press conference held at the Élysée Palace, reminding of the efforts made by France to avoid the escalation of war in Lebanon. Macron stated, "Regarding the UN Security Council resolutions related to Lebanon’s borders, we have expressed our strong caution from the beginning to avoid the expansion of war in the region and to prevent Hezbollah from joining the war and threatening Israel’s security, as well as preventing the conflict from spreading in Lebanon."
He added, "France is committed to the peace and stability of Lebanon, and we have worked from the start to convey direct and indirect messages to all Lebanese political forces and military factions. We have done everything we can to avoid escalation and have presented several proposals in the past weeks, alongside the United States, to the Israelis to make progress on this issue. We believe it is essential to respect the resolutions, especially to stop the strikes that have occurred in recent weeks and to put an end to incursions, and to ensure that Resolution 1701 is respected by both sides, which is indispensable."
Macron reminded of France's commitments and its participation in international peacekeeping forces, stating, "We are committed with the United Nations to the missions of the force and to ensuring it has the necessary means and balances for its mission. Our message to all parties is the necessity of avoiding any escalation as it is not in anyone’s interest."
