Europe is currently experiencing the impact of a powerful storm named "Pia," which has swept through Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands, and is expected to affect several neighboring countries. The Swedish meteorological agency warned that "the storm will cause problems at the height of holiday travel, as many people are traveling to other areas of the country to celebrate with their families."
Today is expected to be particularly challenging due to strong winds, slippery roads, and large amounts of snow along the Norland coast. The storm "Pia" first hit Norway and Denmark before making its way into western Sweden and spreading throughout the country. Severe winds and heavy snowfall are mainly affecting Svaland and southeastern Norland, leading to traffic issues.
The Netherlands is also preparing for flooding of major rivers like the Rhine and Waal due to heavy rainfall in the river basins and melting Alpine snow. Meanwhile, approximately 200 flights at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam have been canceled due to high winds associated with storm "Pia" coming from the northern Atlantic.
"Pia" has caused chaos ahead of Christmas, with widespread train and flight cancellations across Britain.
