Hugo Duro scored two goals and Kabi Gira added another, leading Valencia to a 3-0 victory over visiting Atlético Madrid in La Liga on Saturday. Valencia, who had lost their last two matches, outperformed their opponent Atlético, who had been undefeated in the league this season prior to this match but struggled with several absences and a decline in play following the postponement of their match against Sevilla last month before the international break.
Duro gave the home team an early lead with a shot from a tight angle on the left side after five minutes and added a second goal in the 34th minute following a quick counter-attack. Kabi Gira scored the third goal with a brilliant shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 54th minute, amid loud celebrations at the Mestalla Stadium.
With this win, Valencia achieved their first victory over Atlético since 2014 and moved up to fifth place with nine points. Coach Diego Simeone's team, currently in seventh place with seven points, will face Lazio in their Champions League group stage opener next Tuesday, before playing a capital clash against Real Madrid the following Sunday.
