Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi traveled today, Saturday, to the Kenyan capital Nairobi to participate in the fifth session of the African Union's Mid-Year Coordinating Summit, which commences tomorrow, Sunday.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, stated that "the African Coordinating Summit was established in 2019 under Egyptian presidency of the African Union, as part of efforts to reform the Union, and in the context of defining roles and tasks between the Union Commission and regional economic communities, as well as enhancing the path of regional integration among the continent's countries, particularly regarding economic integration, the most prominent step of which was the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area under the Egyptian presidency in 2019."
The spokesperson added that El-Sisi is scheduled to deliver a speech where he will present Egypt's plan during its current presidency of the Steering Committee of Heads of States and Governments of the African Development Agency (NEPAD). He will also address the climate session as the current president of the United Nations Climate Conference, highlighting Egypt's efforts in addressing the impacts of climate change on African countries.
El-Sisi is also expected to hold discussions with Kenyan President William Ruto to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, address concerns of the African continent, discuss updates on regional issues of mutual interest, and collaborate on frameworks for joint African action to promote development and enhance integration on the continent.
