Meta stated that it made this decision due to "the repeated violations of our policy regarding organizations and individuals that pose a risk," without providing additional details. Khamenei and senior Iranian officials have long been targets of U.S. sanctions. The leader has been subject to U.S. sanctions since 2019 under former President Donald Trump, when tensions escalated in the Middle East following Trump's withdrawal from the Tehran nuclear deal with world powers.
