Mongolian emergency officials announced that at least six people, including three firefighters, were killed in an explosion of a truck carrying 60 tons of liquefied natural gas in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, on Wednesday. The Mongolian Emergency Management Office stated in a Facebook post that at least 11 others were injured in the fire that occurred near the Doninjarav market. More than 600 firefighters and 100 vehicles participated in extinguishing the fire, which was eventually brought under control. The Emergency Management Office posted on Facebook, "Unfortunately, three officers from Unit 63 of the Fire and Rescue Service lost their lives while performing their duties." Local online media reported that the fire quickly spread to several nearby buildings, including a residential building, and ignited dozens of vehicles. Fiona Blyth, the British Ambassador to Mongolia, expressed her condolences on the social media platform X, saying, "On behalf of the British Embassy, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the officers who lost their lives due to the tragic incident in Doninjarav." She added, "We stand in solidarity with the families of all those affected and wish a speedy recovery to the injured in this painful incident."
